When the supply chain involves multiple countries, various modes of transport, and special customs supervision zones (such as bonded zones), the operational complexity and the demand for professional expertise increase exponentially. This article will analyze a specific international transit case to illustrate how refined process management and efficient collaboration can successfully overcome the complex logistics challenges of combining "sea-land intermodal transport" with "bonded zone transit."
Case Study: International Transit of Equipment from Japan to Kazakhstan via Qingdao
1. Project Overview
Business Type: International Multimodal Transport (Sea-Land) and Bonded Zone Transit Services.
Transport Route: Japan (Port of Origin) → Qingdao, China (Transit Bonded Zone) → Kazakhstan (Destination).
Cargo Information: 1 x 20-foot standard container (Equipment).
Execution Period: September 2025.
2. Core Challenges
The essence of this project was to transport cargo by sea from a foreign port, efficiently transit it through a domestic bonded zone in China, and then forward it to a landlocked country via road transport. The main difficulties were:
Strict Time Coordination: The short sea voyage from Japan to the Port of Qingdao demanded seamless and tight connections between all stages, including port operations, bonded zone procedures, and land transport, leaving very little buffer time.
Cross-Time-Zone Communication: The project manager, based in Germany, faced significant time differences with the Asian time zone, posing a challenge to real-time decision-making and collaborative efficiency.
Complex Operational Procedures: The process involved a series of intricate and highly interdependent procedures at the Port of Qingdao, including unloading, entering the bonded zone, customs transit formalities, devanning (unpacking the container), and reloading onto trucks. This required coordination with multiple authorities such as customs, port authorities, and land transport providers.
3. The Realogistics Specialized Solution
To address these challenges, the Realogistics team provided a customized solution that ensured the successful completion of the transport task:
Front-End: Efficient Coordination at the Port of Origin
Established a real-time communication mechanism with the local agent in Japan to overcome time zone barriers.
Precisely coordinated and supervised all pre-shipment activities, including container stuffing, securing, port-in, and customs declaration, according to the client's designated vessel schedule to ensure on-time departure.
Mid-Stream: Proactive Pre-screening of Transit Documents
Initiated the review process for customs transit documents before the cargo's arrival in China.
Strictly verified the compliance and consistency of all documents to ensure they were in perfect order ("single-document consistency"), thereby mitigating the risk of delays from the source.
Back-End: Efficient Devanning and Land Transit
Arranged for immediate devanning operations as soon as the cargo arrived at the Qingdao Bonded Zone.
Simultaneously coordinated with reliable trucking resources to transport the goods to the designated border port.
Efficiently completed transloading and customs exit procedures at the border, ultimately delivering the cargo safely and punctually to the consignee's designated location in Kazakhstan.
Through this series of interlinked professional operations, Realogistics successfully overcame the three major challenges of a tight schedule, complex procedures, and difficult communication, providing the client with a seamless, "one-stop" transit transport service.
