In the global pharmaceutical logistics sector, the transportation of special drugs often faces numerous challenges. On April 28, 2025, realogistics received an urgent notification from an overseas agent to air freight a batch of propofol injection emulsion to Mexico City Airport (NLU). This transportation required special attention to temperature control requirements and the client's high standards.

1. Transportation Notification

  • Date: April 28, 2025

  • Shipment Contents: A batch of propofol injection emulsion, urgently air freighted to Mexico City Airport (NLU).

  • Cargo Characteristics: A total of 602 boxes, including 3 temperature indicators.

2. Operational Challenges

  1. Loose Cargo: 602 boxes of loose cargo that needed to be palletized and temperature indicators installed within a short timeframe.

  2. Temperature Control Requirements: The cargo needed to be stored in the airport cold storage, maintained within a temperature range of 2-8°C.

  3. Client Requirements:

    1. This shipment was for a VIP client, requiring detailed photos and videos at every stage to ensure proper operations.

    2. The client was very concerned about the operational process and efficiency.

  4. Shipping Restrictions:

    1. Following the May Day holiday, airlines faced capacity shortages and a backlog of e-commerce goods, leading to tight flight availability.

    2. Due to temperature requirements, a direct flight had to be chosen.

3. Operational Process

  1. Confirm Cargo Information:

    1. Upon receiving the detailed cargo information, realogistics immediately verified the delivery timeline and special operational requirements with the shipper.

    2. Booked a direct flight (5Y: CAN-NLU) with the airline to ensure arrival within 1-2 days.

  2. Cargo Reception:

    1. Upon receipt of the cargo, comprehensive photos were taken to check for any visible damage to all boxes.

  3. Palletizing Plan:

    1. Based on evaluations by onsite and warehouse personnel, it was decided that each pallet would not exceed 145 cm in height, resulting in a total of 17 pallets to meet the height restrictions of the air freight cabin while helping the client save on logistics costs.

  4. Temperature Controller Installation:

    1. realogistics staff carefully installed the 3 temperature controllers on 3 different pallets, attaching clear identification labels and collision prevention tags.

    2. After palletizing, they applied in advance to the airport cold storage to ensure the cargo could enter the temperature-controlled area without stacking, maintaining the necessary temperature requirements.

This case illustrates an efficient response process addressing urgent air transport needs for special pharmaceuticals, including close client communication, precise operational steps, and professional onsite management, ensuring safe and timely delivery of the cargo, thereby enhancing client satisfaction.
