1. Time
July 2026
2. Main Trust Content
Realogistics was entrusted by a US agent to arrange container transloading services in Hong Kong due to their cargo being unable to clear customs smoothly in the United States.
3. Basic Cargo Information
Product Name: Doors (with glass), Large Marble Slabs
Quantity: 105 pieces
Weight: 14,300 kg
Volume: 65 CBM
4. Mode of Transport
Container Sea Freight (Transloading operation performed in Hong Kong)
5. Shipping Route
Oakland > Hong Kong > Los Angeles
6. Operational Characteristics / Challenges Encountered
Complex Handling of Mixed Cargo: The container held cartons, wooden crates, and unpackaged goods, all without pallets, requiring primarily manual operations. Some wooden crates were damaged, and the factory's reinforcement was insufficient, increasing the difficulty and risk of handling.
Handling High-Risk Fragile Goods: The cargo included high-volume doors with glass, requiring extreme caution during movement. Additionally, the client requested that the goods maintain their original condition after reloading, but it was not possible to transfer all goods to the new container immediately during the transloading process, necessitating temporary storage of some items.
Equipment Limitations for Heavy Cargo: Included two pieces of marble weighing 3.9 tons and 4.4 tons respectively. The warehouse's daily forklift (3-ton capacity) could not directly handle such oversized cargo, posing a challenge to equipment bearing limits.
Extreme Time Window Challenge: Shipping space from Hong Kong to the US was tight, and the shipping company delayed releasing the booking. The last free demurrage period for the import container was July 17th, and the container free use period only extended until July 18th, leaving less than 24 hours for the transloading operation.
7. Realogistics' Solution
Leveraging rich experience and professional adaptability, Realogistics and its partner warehouse adopted the following comprehensive solutions:
Refined Manual Operation and Phased Transshipment: For unpackaged, fragile, and glass goods, the Realogistics team implemented highly refined manual handling and promptly dealt with damaged wooden crates. To meet the client's requirement of restoring the goods to their original condition, a strategy was adopted where some goods were safely temporarily stored in the warehouse and then transferred in phases to the export container, effectively balancing efficiency and cargo safety.
Innovative Forklift Load Enhancement: To address the challenge of handling oversized marble slabs, Realogistics' partner warehouse successfully increased the load-bearing limit and stability of the counterbalance forklift by adding weight to its rear, safely completing the loading and unloading of the 3.9-ton and 4.4-ton marble.
Efficient and Tight Time Management with Two-Phase Operation: Faced with less than 24 hours for the operation, the Realogistics team immediately initiated a "two-phase" emergency operation after obtaining the export container pickup document on the afternoon of July 17th:
Phase One: That afternoon, the import container was retrieved from the yard, and some cargo was quickly unloaded and safely temporarily stored.
Phase Two: The next morning, the export container was retrieved from the yard, the remaining cargo from the import container was transferred to the export container, and then the temporarily stored cargo was reloaded and comprehensively reinforced.
Result: Ultimately, the Realogistics Hong Kong team successfully completed all replacement and reloading operations within the extreme timeframe and promptly returned the laden and empty containers to the yard, ensuring the smooth transshipment of the cargo.
Conclusion:
Facing challenges such as complex cargo, equipment limitations, and tight deadlines, Realogistics successfully completed the task efficiently and safely, thanks to its rich professional experience, strong adaptability, and rigorous project management.
This once again demonstrates Realogistics' professionalism and reliability in providing high-difficulty customized logistics solutions, assisting clients' businesses in thriving globally.
