1. Key Timeline

Target Vessel Departure: July 26Earliest Cargo Completion Date: July 22

2. Project Overview

A technology company commissioned Realogistics to design and arrange a customized garment container for the ocean shipment of 2,500 men’s and women’s cotton jackets from Yantian, Shenzhen, China, to La Spezia, Italy.

3. Cargo Details

Commodity: Men’s and women’s cotton jacketsQuantity: 2,500 piecesGross Weight: 3,860 KGVolume: 63 CBM

4. Transportation Mode & Route

Transportation Mode: Garment-on-Hanger (GOH) Ocean FreightPort of Loading: Yantian, Shenzhen, ChinaPort of Discharge: La Spezia, Italy

5. Operational Challenges

Extremely Tight TimelineThe customer required the shipment to catch the July 26 vessel, while the cargo would not be ready until July 22. This left an extremely limited window for container loading, customs declaration, and terminal delivery, with virtually no room for delays or errors.

Split Loading Across Multiple LocationsThe cargo had to be loaded at two separate factories in Shenzhen and Fujian. Since the two factories had limited visibility into each other’s cargo quantities, individual garment dimensions, and GOH requirements, coordinating the overall loading plan was highly challenging. Without careful planning, this could easily lead to an unstable center of gravity or non-compliant loading conditions.

Uncertainty in Carrier Approval & On-Site AdjustmentsThe customized garment container and its hanging system had to undergo pre-approval by the shipping line, covering the container structure, hanging bars, and securing method. If the setup failed to meet the carrier’s requirements, on-site modifications would be necessary, with an uncertain turnaround time that could consume critical operational time.

6. Realogistics’ Solution

Optimizing the Garment Container DesignRealogistics engaged with the shipping line in advance to review and optimize the customer’s original hanging-system proposal of 21 bars × 15 ropes × 8 knots. Based on the cargo characteristics and carrier requirements, Realogistics upgraded the configuration to 22 bars × 15 ropes × 8 knots.

The additional crossbar served as a backup support, significantly enhancing the stability of the garment hanging system and reducing the risk of rope-knot wear, garment detachment, and fabric abrasion during long-distance ocean transportation.

Strict On-Site Container InspectionOnce the terminal confirmed that the container had been modified according to the revised specifications, Realogistics immediately arranged for a truck to collect the container from Yantian.

The team conducted a thorough on-site inspection, verifying the quantity and condition of the hanging bars, ropes, and knots, while also carefully checking the integrity of the waterproof lining inside the container.

Efficient Multi-Location Loading & End-to-End CoordinationAfter confirming that the container met all requirements, Realogistics transported it to the factory in Fujian.

Thanks to detailed preparation and close coordination in advance, the Fujian factory completed the loading process in just 3 hours.

In the early morning of July 23, the container returned to Shenzhen for loading at the second factory. It then successfully completed customs clearance and terminal delivery, ultimately catching the customer’s target vessel departure on July 26.

7. Project Summary

Successfully catching the target vessel once again demonstrated Realogistics’ professional coordination capabilities in handling complex and time-critical logistics projects.
