1. Project Overview

Recently, a client entrusted Realogistics with the inbound ocean freight and end-to-end forwarding of a dangerous goods electric vehicle (EV) from the United States to Nansha, Guangzhou. The service scope included overseas vehicle pickup, container stuffing, international ocean freight, ATA customs clearance, devanning, and final mile delivery.

2. Basic Cargo Information

Commodity: Dangerous Goods Electric Vehicle (EV)Quantity: 1 UnitRouting: Port of Los Angeles (LAX), USA → Port of Nansha, GuangzhouIncoterms: DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)Transport Mode: FCL (Full Container Load) Ocean FreightCustoms Clearance Mode: ATA Carnet (Return phase)

3. Transport Solution

FCL Ocean Freight + ATA Return Customs Clearance + Domestic Final Delivery

After the vehicle was processed and loaded into the container in the US, it was shipped via ocean freight to the Port of Nansha, Guangzhou. Upon completion of the ATA customs clearance procedures, the container was picked up and devanned, with the vehicle ultimately delivered to the client's yard via a specialized transport vehicle.

4. Timeline

July 2: Received client inquiry and confirmed the ocean freight requirement for one dangerous goods EV in a 20ft container.

July 22: Received the official booking entrustment; initially scheduled for an August 6 sailing.

July 23: Prior to container loading, the vehicle's battery was found dead, making it unable to drive into the container. With no compatible charger on-site, the original loading plan was halted.

August 14: Coordinated overseas resources to complete vehicle processing and container loading; the sailing schedule was adjusted accordingly.

August 27: Cargo departed from the Port of LAX, USA.

September 16: Cargo arrived at the Port of Nansha, Guangzhou.

September 24: Relying on the ATA carnet and authorization documents prepared in advance, customs clearance and release were smoothly completed.

September 26: Container was retrieved and delivered to the Nansha warehouse for devanning operations.

September 28: Confirmed the delivery window with the consignee, dispatched a recovery flatbed vehicle for pickup, and successfully delivered the EV to the client's yard, completing the project.

5. Operational Challenges

① Dead Battery Halting Standard Loading: Prior to loading, the vehicle was unable to move under its own power, and the site lacked a compatible charger. Due to local operational regulations in the US, manually pushing the vehicle was prohibited, threatening to delay the original sailing schedule.

② Parallel Requirements of Dangerous Goods and ATA Carnet: Transporting an EV involves strict dangerous goods operational protocols. Simultaneously executing an ATA Carnet return clearance imposed exceptionally high requirements on document preparation and process synchronization.

③ High Coordination Demands Under DDP Terms: From emergency handling and ocean booking in the US to domestic customs clearance, devanning, and final delivery, every node required tight sequencing. Any delay could impact the final handover.

6. Realogistics' Solutions

① Emergency Coordination of Overseas Resources to Resolve Loading Issues: Upon discovering the dead battery, Realogistics immediately contacted the manufacturer and arranged local towing services in the US to transfer the vehicle to our proprietary warehouse. We executed jump-starting, charging, vehicle securing, and power-disconnection procedures. Following extensive coordination, the container loading was successfully completed on August 14.

② Advance Preparation for ATA Customs Clearance: While the cargo was in transit by sea, Realogistics proactively prepared the ATA carnet and relevant authorization documents. This ensured readiness for operations the moment the cargo arrived in Nansha. On September 24, all customs procedures were seamlessly completed and the cargo was released.

③ Orchestrating Domestic End-to-End Delivery: Following customs release, Realogistics executed the planned container retrieval and devanning. We confirmed the delivery window with the consignee in advance, coordinated a recovery vehicle for pickup and transport, and successfully delivered the EV to the client's yard on September 28.

7. Project Summary

The key to this project's success lay in effectively managing an unexpected overseas on-site issue while maintaining meticulous forward planning for the ATA return clearance and domestic delivery.

By mobilizing overseas resources, preparing customs documents in advance, and seamlessly bridging domestic distribution networks, Realogistics successfully accomplished the end-to-end transport and delivery of this EV from the US to Nansha, Guangzhou.
