Project Background
In October 2025, Realogistics was entrusted by a UK agent with a precise and complex transportation task: to ship a batch of aircraft engine nacelles from Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited (HAECO) at Hong Kong International Airport to the Port of Keelung, Taiwan, for maintenance via sea freight.
I. Cargo Details
• Container: 1 x 40’FR
• Cargo Dimensions/Weight:
330 x 342 x 207 cm / 775 kgs
336 x 330 x 201 cm / 863 kgs
• Commodity: Aircraft Engine Nacelle
II. Project Challenges and Solutions
This project was exceptionally difficult, primarily due to two major challenges: overland transport restrictions and a last-minute change in the shipping schedule. Leveraging its extensive experience in aviation material transport, Realogistics successfully overcame these challenges.
Challenge 1: Overland Transport of Oversized Cargo
• Problem: The cargo's maximum width of 3.42 meters far exceeded Hong Kong's legal road limit of 2.5 meters. This meant conventional transport was not an option, and a special transport permit was required.
• Realogistics Hong Kong's Solution:
• Professional Compliance: Initiated a special transport plan and applied for an oversized cargo transport permit from the relevant Hong Kong authorities.
• Full Escort Protection: Arranged a professional escort patrol team to guide and protect the transport truck from the front and rear, ensuring public road safety during transit.
• Key Checkpoint Coordination: Coordinated closely with road management authorities when passing through critical sections like the Tsing Ma Bridge, which connects the airport to the city. Additional patrol vehicles were dispatched for extra escort, ensuring a flawless transport process.
Challenge 2: Urgent Shipping Schedule Change During Typhoon Season
• Problem: The transport was scheduled during Hong Kong's typhoon season in October. Tropical Cyclone "Fengshen" was approaching the South China Sea at the time, posing a direct threat to the shipping schedule. The shipping company gave last-minute notice that the vessel, TS Xiamen, originally scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong on October 20, would now arrive a day earlier.
• Realogistics Hong Kong's Solution:
• Rapid Emergency Response: The operations team immediately activated an emergency response plan upon receiving the schedule change notification.
• Efficient Resource Allocation: Urgently coordinated with the container yard and quickly deployed truck drivers and crane operators to ensure that manpower and equipment were ready for the sudden change.
• Precise Execution: Completed a series of critical operations in a very short time, including picking up the container from the yard, loading the oversized cargo, lashing and securing it, and re-measuring the dimensions and weight, ensuring the cargo was ready before the vessel's arrival.
III. Operational Flow
1. The truck picks up the cargo from HAECO and transports it to a yard for temporary storage, pending confirmation of the shipping schedule for container stuffing.
2. The empty container is brought to the yard for stuffing, lashing, and re-measurement of gross weight and dimensions.
3. The truck enters the terminal in the early morning according to the vessel's ETA provided by the shipping line, awaiting loading onto the ship.
Project Summary
The successful completion of this transport mission fully demonstrates Realogistics' extensive experience and outstanding emergency response capabilities in handling high-value, oversized cargo such as aviation equipment. Whether dealing with strict overland transport regulations or managing unexpected situations during sea transit, the Realogistics team showcased a high degree of professionalism and reliability.
