Project Background:
On July 22, 2025, Realogistics was entrusted by a client to manage the shipment of an airworthy aircraft from China to the Czech Republic for repairs. The service scope included delivering the aircraft to the final recipient's address.
Scope of Services:
End-to-End Logistics Planning: Including ocean freight booking, inland transportation, and container solution design.
Customs & Documentation: Managing the export customs clearance for "items for repair" and all related documentation.
Overseas Agent Coordination: Liaising with our agent in the Czech Republic to arrange customs transit from the Port of Hamburg, Germany, and ensure final door-to-door delivery.
Risk Management: Conducting a thorough insurance assessment and procuring freight insurance.
Operational Process & Key Challenges:
Phase 1: Logistics Solution Optimization — Simplifying Complexity to Reduce Costs & Enhance Safety
Initial Assessment: Based on the aircraft's technical drawings (dimensions: 5.98 x 2.5 x 2.476 meters), our initial proposal was to use a 40-foot Flat Rack (40FR) container.
Communication & Refinement: After in-depth discussions with the client and the consignee in the Czech Republic, we confirmed that the aircraft's tail and wings could be detached. To effectively control costs and improve transport safety, the final solution was revised to use a standard 20-foot general purpose container. This decision not only significantly reduced ocean freight costs but also minimized the risks associated with handling oversized cargo.
Phase 2: Inland Transport & Loading — Prioritizing Safety with Specialized Equipment
Vehicle Selection: Recognizing the high value and sensitive nature of the aircraft, we opted for an air-suspension truck instead of a standard container truck for the inland journey and factory loading. This choice provided superior stability and vibration damping, ensuring the cargo's protection.
Precise Scheduling: Coordinating with the vessel's estimated time of departure and the client's production schedule, we arranged for the air-suspension truck to arrive at the client's factory for loading on September 1.
Risk Mitigation: As "items for repair" are classified as used goods, obtaining insurance can be complex. Before loading, we contacted multiple insurance providers to assess their offerings. We secured the most cost-effective and comprehensive insurance plan, providing the client with complete peace of mind.
Phase 3: Export Declaration — Proactive & Efficient Compliance
Pre-emptive Documentation: We initiated the customs clearance process concurrently with the loading plan. We immediately consulted our customs broker to confirm all required documents and specific details for exporting "items for repair" and relayed this checklist to the client.
Efficient Review & Revision: We pre-audited the documents prepared by the client and provided timely feedback for necessary revisions. This collaborative and high-efficiency approach ensured all customs declaration documents were completed correctly the first time, leading to a smooth export process.
Phase 4: End-to-End Tracking & Overseas Handover
Information Transparency: Once the cargo was securely loaded, lashed, and on board the vessel, we established a real-time communication channel. The client was kept informed of all key milestones, including port arrival, customs release, and vessel departure.
Seamless Handover: Simultaneously, we synchronized all transit updates with our Czech agent, giving them ample time to prepare for subsequent import clearance, customs transit, and final-mile delivery. This seamless flow of information was critical to ensuring the aircraft was delivered safely and on schedule.
Project Summary:
This project highlights Realogistics' expertise in managing high-value, non-standard cargo. Through meticulous upfront planning, proactive risk management (such as using an air-suspension truck and specialized insurance), and highly efficient internal and external coordination, we not only delivered significant cost savings to the client but also ensured the entire shipment was completed safely, compliantly, and on time, earning the client's complete satisfaction.
