II. Project Background and Challenges

On 28 February 2026, an armed conflict broke out in the Middle East. The airspace of several countries was temporarily closed and civil aviation no-fly restrictions were imposed. Commercial flights were prohibited from overflying the affected areas, and major aviation hubs in the Middle East suspended operations one after another.

As a result, routes to Qatar did not begin to gradually recover until late April to early May. In the initial recovery phase, freighter frequencies were sharply reduced and capacity was extremely tight, posing severe challenges to this dangerous goods shipment.

III. Transport Solution

After a comprehensive assessment, Realogistics ultimately identified the only viable transport chain:

Shenzhen (road) → Hong Kong (air) → Frankfurt (FRA, import declaration + re-export transit clearance) → Doha (DOH)

Key precondition of the solution: as the cargo falls under UN 3480, Section I dangerous goods, the entire transport required a dedicated transport permit from Qatar Airways Head Office obtained in advance. Moreover, the approval process could only be initiated after the cargo had physically arrived in Frankfurt, with an estimated review period of approximately two weeks.

V. Key Difficulties and Solutions

Route Planning Under Extreme Circumstances Affected by the Middle East conflict, conventional transport options were almost entirely suspended. High Threshold for Dangerous Goods Special Authorization As the cargo was classified under UN 3480, Section I dangerous goods, it required special authorization from Qatar Airways Head Office, with stringent conditions for initiating the approval (the cargo had to arrive at FRA first). Realogistics efficiently completed document preparation, submission and communication within two weeks and obtained the approval smoothly.
