In November 2024, Realogistics received an urgent request: a key client needed to switch a shipment of refrigeration equipment (1x20GP, 6500kg) from its originally planned sea freight to air freight, moving it from Canada to China. The client prioritized speed while also needing to manage costs.
Key Challenges
Time Constraint: The client required immediate delivery, but the shipment coincided with the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, making air freight capacity extremely tight.
Cost Control: A direct air freight solution from Canada was too expensive and did not meet the client's budget.
Operational Difficulty: The cargo was large and high-value. It also required a long-haul truck journey from its origin in Canada to an air hub, facing severe weather conditions along the way.
Realogistics' Solution and Execution
Core Strategy: Adopted an innovative "truck-to-air" model.
Route Optimization to Reduce Costs:
Decisively rejected the expensive "direct flight from Canada" option.
Established a new route: Canada → (Truck) → Chicago → (Air Freight) → Zhengzhou. By leveraging Chicago's status as a major aviation hub, Realogistics secured better freight rates and more flight options.
Proactive Risk Management and Planning:
Insurance: Immediately purchased comprehensive insurance for the high-value cargo.
Booking: Pre-booked air freight space from Chicago to Zhengzhou to effectively counter the capacity shortage during the Thanksgiving period.
Customs Declaration: Assisted the shipper with Canadian export customs clearance to ensure a smooth process.
Professional Operations for a Worry-Free Process:
Loading: Deployed specialized heavy-duty equipment for the safe loading of the cargo.
Customs Clearance and Delivery: As soon as the cargo arrived in Zhengzhou, the Realogistics team immediately completed import customs clearance and arranged for a vehicle to deliver the goods directly to the client's specified address, achieving door-to-door service.
